After the intense and challenging competition, the award winners in the X International Tourism Film Festival – Bulgaria “On the East Coast of Europe” were selected amongst 35 nominated tourism productions representing 23 countries form all around the world. The event took place in the artistic atmosphere of the old Bulgarian capital city Veliko Tarnovo in April 10 – 12, 2014. There were all together 77 productions, applying to participate. The Festival received more than 50 Bulgarian and international guests, including representatives of diplomatic missions, international tourism boards and tourism organizations, producers from Italy, Germany, Serbia, Indonesia, Egypt, the Republic of Korea, Turkey, Austria, Croatia, foreign and Bulgarian freelance producers and national televisions.
The Official Awarding Ceremony was held on Saturday, April 12, at the “Revival” Museum in the old capital city, where the awards were announced and bestowed upon the present winners personally by the Festival Director, the mayor of Veliko Tranovo, representatives of the Ministry of Economy and Energy, the chairman of the Bulgarian Travel Agents’ and Tour Operators’ Association and other official guests. The Grand Prix of the Festival went to a film from Montenegro – “Kotor for all seasons”, produced by the Tourism Organization of Kotor. It was a great pleasure that there were more than a few Bulgarian productions that beat the competition in the categories they were competing in and deservingly got the awards. Those were films by producers from Bansko, Plovdiv and Dobrich. The award for a film presenting the most interesting and innovative tourism product went to the Gabrovo Municipality in Bulgaria. The popular science film IN SITU by the Bulgarian National Television and the PROVENTUS Film House received a supplementary award by the jury for is significance in popularizing of important scientific facts of Bulgarian and European history. The mayor of Gossau, Switzerland, who arrived in Bulgaria exclusively for the Festival, personally received the award for the film presenting his town. The audience of film admirers and experts were fascinated by the film “Istanbul Unveiled”, Turkey. The professional international jury revealed their particular motivation for each of the awarded productions. The award itself was a limited edition plaquette portraying the Gate of the Tsarevets Fortress in Veliko Tarnovo. The winner in the audience lottery was picked and announced at the Official Awarding Ceremony and happened to be a local archeologist. He and his loved one will take-off on a 6-day excursion to the Santorini Islands in Greece. The award was presented by the “Elfy Tours” Travel Agency and was a truly delightful surprise to the winner, for the pleasant journey would be of professional interest for him as well.
The programme of Festival side events left the guests impressed and fascinated. There was a very interesting presentation of the Republic of Korea as an attractive tourist destination, organized by the Korean Embassy in Bulgaria in association with the festival, and presented personally by H.E. Mr. Shin Maeng-ho, the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea for Bulgaria. Before the screening of the Bulgarian feature film “The Island”, the Burgas Municipality showed a presentation of their latest tourism product – a boat visit to the St. Anastasia Island, launching in the forthcoming summer season. The International Tour Film Festival “On the East Coast of Europe” is an established and prestigious international forum for tourism video productions that continues growing not only in means of the professional and creative quality of the films participating, but in popularizing Bulgaria and the Bulgarian cultural and natural landmarks around the world.
